I'm not sure if it is my culture or what but here we just look at reality and make fun of it rather than shy away and ignore it. What is offended feel like? The Yanks seem to consider it an emotion on par with anger. To me the closest thing I can equate it with is the insecure feeling you get when someone calls out something embarrassing in front of a group of people or someone cracks a crappy joke about a very personal issue, like testicular cancer or some shite.

I'm just wondering if everyone is on the same page hre because being offended in America seems to anger people to insanity, something the kids are now calling "triggered". I find it disturbing, gross and unmannerly, is this reaction I am having towards "triggered" people the same as being offended?

Sometimes, the Yanks really confuse me. Or maybe it is my Irish culture and our self deprecating humor that is the fault here?

Most people just go through life.  "Offense" gets covered because the media thrives on conflict and hyperbole.  People cannot have simple disagreements and respectfully differ, they have to have "epic" or "perfect" restorts as they "destroy" one another in click bait articles.  I think the proliferation of media via the internet has caused this perception to grow as the internet is a "attention economy".  This means the loudest voices get heard and responded to as it is easier to discredit the fools on the other side of an issue than the calm thoughtful voices.

Triggered actualy does have a basis in PTSD, but it has been adopted by people who want an excuse to lose control of themselves.  I personally cannot stand the notion of blocking speakers from college campuses because people cannot handle voices opposed to them. We need diversity of opinions to better inform ourselves of our own views.
