being offended is really when somebody says something rude or outright insulting about a certain topic, and that topic is something that you hold close and feel like its a part of you.

for example - as gamers, most of us do not remain calm in a situation where somebody would be insulting video games, calling them a waste of time, and anybody who plays them stupid for doing so. some handle it better than others. there are those who can maintain a "if you dont like it, theres the door" attitude, but it can be difficult for a lot of people to have that kind of mental strength without trying to defend themselves in some way or form.

as for "triggered", a trigger in the traditional sense is when a person is so sensitive to a certain topic that they can not have a discussion about without actually breaking down and having a panic attack. think PTSD.

but there have been issues lately where people act offended over every little thing, causing the word "triggered" to be more of a meme than what it actually is. and of course, the route of this problem is people who attempt to associate themselves with too many things at once, a lot of times these are political or social issues. gender identity, sexuality, role reversals, political figures, and especially feminism are all commonly talked about and discussed. and there are people who cannot behave or refuse to learn how to, and the second these issues are brought up they have to voice every single one of their opinions, and defend them to the end of the earth. these people should not be taken seriously. its not that they want attention, its that most of them do not have the mental capacity to contain themselves.
