Not trying to start a flamewar, but PS1 and PS2 were consoles well known for lasting a long time, and the Playstation brand received much loving. The PS3 has destroyed most of this, and when the PS3 falls short of the 10 year mark (which it will, lets be honest), all goodwill towards the brand will be gone.

 That's ridiculous. The PS3 was the best selling console at the launch ever and will sell well again in the near future, respectively this year. The PS One and 2 sold more than 220 million together. At this point the PS3 is much more flexible and future proof than the other systems. So I don't think they will stop developing consoles or change the direction. Sony accomplished a turnover of several billion $.

The PlayStation brand will last for a long time and we will even talk with our children/grandchildren about this brand.
