The winter argument is stupid. If you don't have touchscreen gloves you won't be able to operate the phone either even if you can press the home button.

I wear Motocycle gloves and I have never had an issue with *any* phone in regards to operation in years, regardless of brand. (Nokia, Samsung or Apple.)

They did this because space within a smartphone is premium, every cubic millimeter counts. So they will eliminate everything that consumes too much space. Big USB ports, big home buttons, big camera lenses, headphone jacks, SD slots etc. How do you think they'r still able to improve the phones without actually growing in size?

But Phones have been growing in size?

Heck, Apple's iPhone 6 plus was the first iPhone to grow significantly in size with it's 5.5" Phablet form factor.

Other companies also don't tend to make cutbacks like throwing away large and effective camera sensors, headphones jacks, USB etc'.
And also typically have larger capacity battery's and still increase performance every year with better processors, more ram, larger storage etc'.
