I also can't understand this shit... paying 800 USD every year for a phone (because a lot of people do upgrade every 6mo to 1y) while complaining about the price of a console at 400 that you change every 5y (for me the price of SW is a much bigger hassle) and only wanting to buy when it reaches 200.

The only problem is what you mention, the cost of the games.  If we are to try to somehow compare a PS4 and an Iphone7, we would have to look at the cost of ownership to play games.  The games on the PS4 are mostly $50+.  The games on an iphone are $10 or less.  If a person buys 10 PS4 games a year at $50 it equals $500.  The same for the iphone would be $100.  That makes up for the cost pretty quickly...

Now, if we were to try and compare all of the other things each device does along with form factors, we would really have to go crazy.  With the PS4, you would have to buy a tv, extra controllers etc...  THe list for each device would be quite large and have no real meaning.

I guess we should just ignore this concept alltogether!

Well, we can buy games for less than 10 USD that play better than phones games, but that isn't really the point. When you expend 60 bucks on games (likely buying 3-4 per year for normal people, 1-2 for low usage and 10+ for hardcores) it's pretty silly to complain about 300-400 tag on the HW.

But the point is that 300 for console to use for 6 years is nothing (like one game a year cost) versus a phone for 800 to change in the next year, but somehow people want to say consoles are expensive and cells aren't (I do agree that the hobby itself can be expensive).

This. Also I find it random how we're comparing a mobile phone device to a gaming console. The mobile phone is first and foremost a phone, not a gaming device. We may as well compare a PS4P to a car or anything else at this point and it would be absurd.

Let's compare it to a phone then: $800 to pass a phone call (or SMS, Internet browsing, etc.) when a $100 phone could do the same exact job?

No 100$ hardware could allow you to play Driveclub VR.

That's very different.

You do have a point. even if we go a little further and have 200 phone so you can use app and wpp/fb you would have to go for last gen hw to find a console under 200 and the difference in operation would be night and day.
