Prequels are good when the story has essentially finished the entire game world leaving very little to do without large modifications to the game world. Prequels also do not have to be directly before the original. For example, if Skies of Arcadia got a prequel, I wouldn't want it to take place just before Vyse's adventures. Rather I'd want it to take place several eras prior during the age of the moon civilizations. Sequels are good when the story has left a lot of loose ends.

Oh sure, Prequels aren't bad if they don't happen directly before. However Prequels that do... i've just never seen one work out right. They are so hard to do correctly. Not impossible, but ridiculiously tough.
