FF12 was divisive yes, Its not as good as it could've been because I think the character development was no where near as in depth as FF10 which came before it. Or even as in depth as the previous games. I think FF10 was the most well rounded game, FF12 was unbalanced and difficult to enjoy without the same level of development and evolution of characters that featured heavily in FF10.
That being said I think its still a good game, not the low point, but a point where the series tripped up a bit before collapsing in on itself with the FF13 trilogy.
