GT has always been used as a simulator for professional racers and drifters alike, in which they make sure they get feedback from during production. It can take months to get a single car done and Yamauchi test drives the cars himself to make sure the feel is as close as possible, all this while they program all their car models in GT5P part by part just for physics and weight transfer alone. PD sends art designers and photographers to take thousands of photos of every track and every car that's in-game. PD even has freaking beds in their studios just incase a dev gets too tired and decides to sleep in the office instead. Right before their presentation in TGS07, Yamauchi had his developers tweak the demo right before their demonstration because he thought a car was a hair to close to another, the dude was sweating bullets and obsessed over that minor problem alone. PD and Yamauchi are highly respected by all their peers, the press, professional drivers and competitors for their attention to detail and the effort it takes to turn it into a videogame. You can say "GT sucks" or "GT is overrated" all you want but saying that these devs don't put effort and sweat into their games is a cheap slap in the face. Tread carefully. |
I think he means the visuals rather than physics. Racing sims are easy to make realistic graphics in because how much of the game is pre-rendered, and how small the environment is. I'm not saying there wasn't much work, but it's not hard to make the best visuals in a racing simulation. So yes the game may have the best visuals but it's not technically impressive in that area. Now I do have to give it to them for making incredible physics. |
I was talking about
both visuals and physics. There's no other racing game in the world that has more visual details than in GT5P, you have seen the interiors of the cars haven't you? the level of detail is simply unrivaled. It's not because of the techology they use or the power of t3h cell, it's because of the man hours they put into the game and their love of automobiles.
Regardless, the only reason why I'm upset is that he said PD didn't put effort into GT5P which couldn't be further than the truth. GT5P is a racing sim, there's no reason to say PD didn't put any effort in the game because it didn't have the art style of SMG or uncharted. Visually speaking, PD did what they had to do and given the details shown on the cars and tracks, accusing that PD put little or no effort into GT5 is not debatable.
