Alright, here is my dilemma,
I currently have a very nice and well calibrated 1080p TV that play has active 3D. This is paired with a very nice sound system and AVR. However, neither are capable of the new formats, HDR or 4K.
I do not yet own a PS4 Pro but I have a PS4 Pro on Pre-Order with Guaranteed release day delivery. As I sit here, very impatiently waiting I decided to crunch some numbers and here is what I came up with.
For starters I will be getting the following games to begin my PS4 game collection.
- Knack,
- Rachet and Clank,
- Disgea 5,
- Dragon Quest Heroes,
- The Order,
- The Last of us Remastered,
- and finally Uncharted 4.
If I go with a PS4 pro I can get all 7 games for the not so low price of $658 post tax and delivery, but will have to wait until Nov. 10th
However, if I get either the PS4 Limited Edition Uncharted Bundle, I can get all 7 games for only $503 post tax and delivery and be playing the PS4 by Friday.
As a PC gamer high FPS and heavy details are very important to me, heck I purchased a $700 Video card, GTX 1080, just to play all games on Ultra settings. 4K is not as important to me since content is next to nothing as of now. I cannot benefit from HDR without spending at least another $3K (AVR + OLED TV, I'm picky). With the information flooding in about the PS4 Pro I am beginning to second guess my Pre-Order. There are only 2 games out of many so far that will actually utilize enhanced 1080p SDR settings. All others employ HDR and 4K which for at least a year or so are worthless to me. PSVR does not interest me since I will be buying the HTC Vive Gen2 when it is released. I have tried the Vive and the Oculus. The Vive wins hands down, moving within a room to play VR is necessary for the best experience.
The more I think about it the closer I come to skipping the PS4 Pro, especially with the $150 price disparity. But... If more games start coming out utilizing 1080p 60 FPS on the Pro, I would kick myself for making such a decision.
