Just wait until 21:9 (or 7:3 if you want) becomes the new aspect ratio standard (in my dreams at least).

What I don't get is this IMAX stuff.

I've been to movies that have imax sections, like BvS. To me it looks like all it does is remove the bottom and top black bar and have that also showing stuff.

So why don't they just all switch to "imax" format and use the whole freakin screen.

I'm sure the ratio isn't the same exactly, but still, why make movies in a different size than TV's size. And no, don't just ZOOM in and have less stuff on the edges, but just add stuff above and below. Makes no sense.

That's cause they're doing it wrong. Before all this digital nonesense, movie theaters blanked the sides of the screen, keeping the height constant, as tall as possible. For 2.35:1 movies a different lens would switch before the camera, the curtains opened wider, and you get an amazing full wide view. Nowadays they add black bars top and bottom ugh. Theaters used to be a lot wider, modern theaters are more box size.

Good ones still exist, IMAX sections would like pretty silly on that.
Except the hateful eight, was shot on 65mm with rare anamorphic lenses to make it 2.76:1

IMAX normally doesn't do anamorphic lenses, just a giant screen at 1.43:1 ratio, and at home we get 1.85:1, neither fits. I'm guess the IMAX parts are zoomed in to fill out the sides.
