"The laser in the PS4 is only capable of reading 2 layer BR discs. The ones found in UHD BR drives are capable of reading at least 4+ layers. I really don't see Sony putting in the hardware then disabling it. " So what about PS4Pro? Were you implying the same or standard?

We honestly don't know what kinda drive is in the PS4pro. But if sony says it won't play UHD BR, then it's a safe assumption to say it's the same kinda drive that's in the PS4.

A standard 1080p BR movie takes anywhere between 10-25GB depending on the quality of audio put on the disc. A UHD movie will take that up to almost 40-80GB per movie. Technically, the PS4/PS4pro can play UHD movies that fit ona 50GB BR disc cause they can read those. But sony can say UHD BR capable cause it's not conforming to the UHD BR standard which requires that BR-XL discs are used. Those have at least 4 layers to the standard BR disc 2 layers.

So yh, not a chance in hell that Sony puts in a BR-XL drive in the PS4pro (which it will have to do to meet UHD BR requirement standards) then disable it.

Being able to watch movies is officially more important than playing games on a gaming console. Go figure lol.

who calls it a gaming console? Not sony! It's a entertainment system. It's what sony has always called their systems. And if it was just a gaming console, Then why the hell is the only commericals on tv the last few months for their vue service. Not games?

Errr.... commercials for games come along when games are about release. And while it may do other things.... the primary thing it does is play games. That's why it comes with a game controller and not a remote control out of the box. If that doesn't tell you what it's primary focus is then I don't know what else will.

Simply put, for anyone to say they wanted to buy a PS4pro but are not going to because it doesn't play UHD movie "discs"? well.... let's just say that's the most ridiculous thing I've heard of late. Because it's not like it wont play UHD movies. Just not the disc.... Hell, you can even download UHD movies if you simply don't want to stream. There are options.
