The problem is that the exact specifications for the BD-Drive has not been released. We don't yet have a part number.

This article is outright wrong many aspects. The worst is assuming that any BD-Drive is capable of reading a UHD disc, this is incorrect. It takes a pairing of the correct firmware and laser to be able to read more than the standard 2-layers. This is why you can buy a BD-XL Drive and a standard BD drive for a PC.

Now if the PS4 Pro does have a BD-XL capable Drive then all that it would require is for Sony to pay for licensing for HDCP 2.2 and the DolbyDTX audio codecs and to enable the feature via firmware/driver update. It may already be planned to be enabled in a future firmware update, or even a release day update for all we know.

We don't know if it is capable until we get a Part number for the drive or the system its self is released so that someone can find out themselves.
