I would suggest to put it in a hhh:mm format because that way, you can use Excel to do all the calculations for me. When posting in that format, Excel will switch it to hhh:mm:ss but you can just chop the last part off
SUM(A#:A#), where # are the cells you are trying to add up
Which is why I ask people to put it in a chart on VGC, so you can just copy and paste the whole chart into Excel, without having to edit the times to allow for summing, etc.
Afterwards, you can use those numbers for other things like stats or whatever you fancy
