Your logic requires the detractors to be the exact same people in both instances. That is very likely probably not the case. Heck, one of the most vocal detractors on this board was basically an AV nut: he was buying a 4K TV, and wanted the best 4K movies he could get, for which he felt he needed blu ray because he didn't think 4K streaming would be good enough. I'm not really sure how you can make the case that the detractors are simply hypocritics.
Now, I AM one of those people who felt the PS3's inclusion of blu ray (and cell for that matter) was pointless and contributed to the system selling far less than PS1, PS2, and being beaten by the Wii (a system that couldn't even play DVDS!) and only barely beating the 360 in worldwide sales thanks in large part to the 360's nonexistent Japanese market share. The system was far more expensive than it needed to be. And it was still sold at a significant loss too! But I am also a person who doesn't care that much about picture quality. I didn't care much about PS3's inclusion of blu ray beyond the novelty of a new medium, and I don't care about PS4Pro's exclusion of blu ray beyond the fact that it seems like an odd choice for a system that is being released largely for 4K consumers.
Given that we already have a $300 PS4 on the market, I personally don't see the problem with Sony releasing the PS4Pro at $450, or even $500 in order to include the feature, since there is still a much more affordable option on the market for people like me who don't own a 4K tv and don't care about the feature.
