My 4K TV has a really good 4 step scaler and my XBox One S is still much better. I explored this with the XBO S and the OG PS4.
That guy on YouTube '4K Gaming Vault' has uploaded a ton of games on a non HDR M series Vizio where he shows you the console in 1080p and 4K modes.
You can see the improvements from the upscale. Most notably, the size of the image how its framed into the display.
With the Console outputting 1080p and letting the TV upscale, the image doesn't scale 100% properly. When you turn on the 4K output on the console, the image fits proportionally as a 4K native Image should. It also seems to clean up the image and give you a better aliased look in most games. For instance, even on Forza 5, for me it cleaned up lots of the jaggies.
Those are good videos to show the improvements both XBO S and Ps4 Pro(moreso) can provide with a 4K HDTV, the video quality and recording is not pristine and you can still note the changes.
Really glad i sold the VCR and replaced it with an XBO S. Pro is next.
