I think PlayStation 5 will launch 2019, and no Sony should not react to other company's release plans. It's not about making another company "fail" it's about creating the most successful product you can.

Well said... even though 2018 is most likely whats going to happen. And the reason why ps4pro looks so ugly. They probably saved the stylish design for ps5 knowing that they'll release it soon (in 2018). ps4 was released to accomodate psvr and to compete with scorpio. So they kinda rushed it out, took the fastest manufacturing method which means foregoing with design.

I think 2018 is viable if TSMC manages to keep their schedule for 10nm...but they are usualy late.

nah. let ps4 and ps4 and a probably pro+ live until 2020.
PS5 should be at other level. 10TF, 32 GB ram at minimum. The jumo should be the same as was PS3 to old PS4 (5* more processing, 4*memory)

Actually, PS3 to PS4 jump is around 8x, if we go by FLOPS (which is silly given that one uses nVidia and other AMD, and how far apart those GPU gens are). but even if we go from 360 to PS4 (both AMD, and more capable GPU) it's around 8x (again going by FLOPS, which is silly). Sony themsleves said PS3 to PS4 is around 10x.

So, PS5 should be at least around 14TFLOPS for the samilar jump  (again in PS4 FLOPS). But there's also 1080p to 4K UHD jump, which is much bigger then 720p to 1080p, so even more is needed if native 4K is considered.
