I would think if EA releases a console (even if its kinda crappy) they could easily become market leader by convincing all the sports nuts to buy the EA console (not to mention what other popular IP's they might buy before than).
If this doesn't happen, the Playstation brand is the only real competition (let's face it, MS will never have huge success in Japan and parts of EU)
