Both graphics and resolution require resources from the system, so naturally reducing one gives more room for another. If [x] is running at 4k, and you downgrade it to 1080p, you've freed up resources for graphics upgrades. Which version looks best will depend on your preferences, which is why they're offering the choice. 

downplaying 4K since i only have 1080p TV you know...
