I don't buy how modern emulation is the biggest culprit in terms of piracy/lost revenue when compatibility is often very low once a system nears the end of it's lifespan in terms of software support so not only is compatibility hardly guaranteed but publishers eventually slow down printing copies of games too which automatically lowers potential revenue in the end ...

Emulation of modern consoles through PCs are FAR AWAY from being the most accessible way of piracy when you often have to subsidize higher hardware costs. If my sole purpose was to only play games for free then I would've just saved my $800+ that I spent on my PC and instead get a 3DS with a flashcart when it is by far the cheaper option so free games probably isn't the driving factor for emulation. I'd argue that emulation is mainly driven by being able to get better experiences, more convenience, and best of all is a way for software to be kept alive once publishers stop producing the said copies of the games ...
