Everything was OK until I put the MCC blu ray disc... It took ages for me to start to play since I had a 2 Mb Connection... But I took the waiting like a champ, so I could get to play again that awesome game remastered and in a goddamn big screen (60" instead of 14" from my work's laptop). But oh was I in for a ride... Every goddamn game that I buy, physical of course, have to download and install a hugeeeee amount of I dont know what data... Today I finished Halo 4 and make the mistake of wanting to play Halo 5 right away... Ohhhh dear, was I wrong... 41 Effing GB to update.!!!!! WTF is this? are you kidding me Microsoft? whats the point on selling Physical games at all?? Why do I need to buy a goddamn charger instead of being included?? why every goddamn time that I quit from the missions, the effing Xbone would ask if I want gold?????

I'm hearing you.
It took me 20 hours to install+update the MCC.

In both their cases though... The MCC collection downloads the multiplayer component+Halo ODST+Patches.
And Halo 5 has had a ton of extra content (Maps, modes, vehicles, weapons, sound bytes etc'.) + Patches since launch.

So you are getting something out of it.

I literally have over a Terabytes worth of updates, DLC and games waiting in Que, it's nuts. I'm waiting on the NBN rollout before I tackle that, but that could be a year away.

5 Games and my storage is at 75%!!!!! only 2 of them are digital and were included in the bundle, otherwise I would have get them physical, but there would be no point at all since maybe Physical would require another huge amout of download data just for the game to actually start!!!!

I would never ever buy another M$ console ever forever and ever.

Well after all this rant... what do you guys think??

External storage is the answer.
My original Xbox I filled the HDD mostly with music.
My Xbox 360's 320Gb HDD is full of Games and DLC, I have resorted to an External Hard Drive for my games.
And my Xbox One is about to exceed 4 Terabytes of storage soon.

Games are "Blowing Up" in size, mostly thanks to Blu-ray giving developers cheap and plentifull storage, but sadly not being fast enough so we still need installs.

A friend of mine just has a couple of games installed at a time on his drive, I can't be like that sadly, especially if a game can take 20+ hours to install.

This isn't strictly a Microsoft console issue either, even on PC games have grown massively in size and I would assume the same holds true for the PS4.

My main issue is how I cannot deffer updates to a later date, once the Xbox recognizes an update is available you must download it or remain offline... And I never know an update has been released untill I turn the machine on and play the game.

Case in point yesterday I played a game early hours in the morning... Turned the Xbox off and later that night before bed I thought I might have a round of Overwatch. Nope. There was a 472Mb system update which would have taken longer than the match would have taken, so I shelved it.
It would have been better if I could delay untill tomorrow morning so the update happens on my terms. (Like when I am at work.)

I think it does sound like they don't offer a good product/service. I hate intrusive DLC practices so that gold pestering would really anger me. Fable 3 had that aswell with weapons that require you to pay for online to upgrade them.

Microsoft can be way too agressive. Not that Sony or even Nintendo are perfect, but they certainly aren't as intrusive.
Also, on the PS4 you can start a game without the update (though you do need to install it fully on the HDD. I'm shocked that that isn't the case on the X1. It does sound quite bad. Glad i dodged that bullet.

Please, enlight me, because I have a lots of PS4 games, and not all toghether will add up to 41 GB in updates. No kidding. I dont remeber one of them being larger than 5 GB at most, hell 3 GB and I will shut up about it.

I think Guitar hero LIVE had the largest and wasnt even close to 5.

Content is being added with these updates.

I never recalled that with Fable 3, but I have had Gold since the original Xbox days, so I doubt I would have noticed. :P

Also you can play a game while it is installing/updating, but that is game dependent, most games won't allow you to play untill it's patched though.
For example with the MCC collection while it is installing/patching you can check the individual progress of each campaign to see if Halo 1/2/3/4/ODST are done and playable.

And you can start a game without an update on the Xbox One, but you need to put the console into offline mode, which is absolute garbage in my opinion, it's inconvenient at best and you loose the ability to be "social" even in a single player game.

The Xbox One is far from perfect. The updating procedures have been my biggest pet peeve since launch, but with that also said... It has gotten better over time.
