I can suggest three reasons why many don't still play.
TIME: I just don't have the time to spend on games I once did. I'm retired but I am still working full time (slept through that class). I'm also writing, currently my third book, and I have many other interests including digital imaging, and Z gauge trains. Plus, she who must be obeyed expects me to do a few things around the house. I'm not a candidate for WoW that's for sure. I lik games I can play for a hour or less at a time.
CONTROLS: Don't let them kid you, reflexes slow down with age. It gets harder to use a controller that has you doing stuff like you were playing a clarinet while trying to keep up with a fast moving game on the screen. It had gotten frustrating and I would have canned the whole thing if Nintendo hadn't come up with a better (simpler) way.
PLAYFULNESS: Some older folks seem to think that video games are just for teenagers and too frivolous to play. Fortunately, I never grew up so I figure if it's fun, then f**k dignity..
