One company has played their cards, while the other has not (yet, we know something is coming). As others said, the timing of this topic doesn't really make sense, despite one's "right" to be pessimistic.

Eh, Sony never engaged in price war with the PlayStation (even during the PS1/2 days when they were a much stronger company). No need to get into that (yes, they could do it) when they're doing as well as they are and making a nice chunk of money.

I'm not sure how accurate this article is but it shows Sony pretty much always price matched PS2 with the OG Xbox. PS1 also price matched the N64.

If Sony wanted a bigger sales edge, they could just price match. But I can understand why they wouldn't.

According to that article, Sony was the first to drop the price of the PS2, and MS and Nintendo followed suit. So how is that them matching the price? Looks to me that MS was playing catch up, not Sony. It shows the same thing for the PS1 era, too.

Looks more like the market leader would drop their price, and the others quickly followed.
