1000% this. I see no value at all in 4K for consoles. Power pissing contests aside my TV set up means I am right on the edge of getting a visual benefit from 1080p compared to lower HD resolutions.
I much prefer power resoources go into better AA, better lighting and textures, longer draw distances and more stable (if not higher) frame rates.
My current 1080p TV will last me several more years, and most likely I will replace it with another 1080p TV unless by the time I decide to buy another TV 1080p no longer exists as an option, which probably means the high end TVs will be 8K, in which case I'll cheap out with 4K. I always buy a TV at least one step behind the top resolution because I find that to be the best value for money.
