No, 4k is absolutely a waste of resources especially for gaming.
When they can start over sampling at 90/120 fps for vr that will be great. But were not even close, and so right now 4K constitutes little more than a dick measuring contest.
Edit: I should point out that it will eventually become the standard which is fine. But the push for it has been too strong considering the resources it requires it provides a pretty limited benefit.
