Van Basten is to join FIFA in a newly created position in which he'll be able to influence decisions regarding rule changes, referees and starting dates of competitions. Some of the things he reportedly wants to change:
- All competitions to start on the same date
- Transfer deadline 1 month earlier
- One clear league for each country
- One cup per country, no FA Cup and League Cup together like in England
- Video referees
- Completely abolish the offside rule (I'm not kidding, that's genuinely what Van Basten wants)
- More unspecified changes regarding refereeing and rules
