I bought one of those PlayStation Gold Wireless Headsets maybe two years ago and it's been working pretty well. I know what you mean about the wires cutting off only one ear, so the good thing about the headset I have now is that it's wireless, but also lets you use an audio cable if you want. I'm usually just using the audio cable for pretty much everything--PS4, PC, phone calls, etc. And if the cable ever craps out, I can just buy another one instead of replacing the headset. My suggestion is maybe find one that has a removable audio cable. Maybe something wireless that does both wired and wireless and can be used across every device you've got.
Oh, and also I bought this headset at a Walmart which was (oddly) putting them on their clearance rack for $40 CAD. It was really weird, but I instantly bought them at such a stupid low price.
