I absolutly believe they will make another handheld in the future, and that a PlayStation Mobile line of produts will replace the Xperia line. There have been to many rumblings from Kaz about such a thing for it not to eventually happen. The only question now is when. A much as I would love for them to have come up with a way to make all PS4 games playable at 720p on a mobile, I just don't quite think the tech is there yet. So I think we won't see a new handheld tell 2018 with the 7nm FinFET chips. However, they may have decidied that they are ready to jump in to the market ASAP, and the are going to be happy with something like 540p on a mobile device, but upscaled to a 5" 1080p display on the phone, or a 7" display on the tablet. If this is the case then they cold have a major revision in 2019 to a device that could handle 1080p gaming on the go. Obviously only time will tell. I have been PS only since PS4 came out, but the Vita is starting to be imposible to use as a phone. If they were to come out with a PS Phone right now it would be perfect timing for me. |
I pretty much agree 100%. The tech is not there yet, but, the background work that needs to be done is a OS implementation that could be ubiquitous to their entire Playstation lineup. Allowing games to be coded and easily ported between devices, lowering resolution, AA and other eye candy on the lower powered hardware (much like you can get different settings on a PC) should be the way to go.
A PS Phone, in which a bi yearly revision could come up with subscription plans, would be huge. I'd pass my S7 edge to my gf in a hearbeat if this came to be :D
