I thought digital content was account bound (and not playable when switching accounts). When I've bought games from the US for instance Mass Effect 2, the physical disc has worked fine due to PS consoles being region free but the digital content (redeemable DLC codes) didn't work.

The codes should still work on a US account and then once downloaded be playable on your regular account. As long as it's set as the primary console for the other account then you can play any games from it on any account.
