People have said they've just made part of the touchpad transparent, so it's not an additional light, it's just the light that's already there shining through a previously opaque surface.

I've really not had a problem with battery life, It lasts a good 8-10 hours and when it says I'm running low I just plug it in and keep playing while it's charging, 30 mins later it's almost full charge again.

No its just the touchpad part, has a transparent area, where light from below can come through.

It wont use any more power than the older DS4's afaik.
