People have said they've just made part of the touchpad transparent, so it's not an additional light, it's just the light that's already there shining through a previously opaque surface.
I've really not had a problem with battery life, It lasts a good 8-10 hours and when it says I'm running low I just plug it in and keep playing while it's charging, 30 mins later it's almost full charge again.
But it would have been nice to have a better battery inside the new model, as for some the current battery life is a problem.
