| Xbrah said: I have a lady staying in my house who is Brazilian, she is here for a local festival. She is deeply religious but frankly comes across as a nut-case and I personally feel that the practice of religion in brazil , particularly the evangelical movement is distasteful and an affront to what real spirituality is about. You see the extravagant lifestyles of these ministers and preachers and the overt, stylised nature of the sermons and the religious radio stations.... It is a money machine, nothing to do with bettering anybody except their own lifestyle. The woman staying here continually listens to her radio station from Brazil and if she is outside she is singing the songs and clapping her hands to herself. People here are looking like she is a nut case and it is very uncomfortable to be around. I would never deny someone their spirituality or religion but I really think it should be a personal thing and I hate that it has become commercialised and perverted for making money. IOC is right to nip this in the Budd. |
Oh yes, we have the crazy preachers and pastors here, but this is not, by all means, the case for all the churches or christians here.
There are a dozen of frauds and charlatans here getting money and fame in the name of religion, like in every place.
But there are real churches and millions of real christians, that are much more smart and moderated, I assure you.
In america you guys have the same thing: for every Peter S. Ruckman you get a dozen Steve Andersons... =(
I believe it is not necessary to give money to a preacher to achieve salvation, as it comes from Jesus Christ.
Showing faith by helping people, donating, things like that, it is beautiful. But giving away money to a flamboyant corrupt preacher is not cool, I agree with you
But the Lord is not to blame because of these guys, Jesus warned us about the thing they would do in his names, he warned us about the wolves in sheep clothing, well, he warned us in Matthew and Luke about pretty much everything that happened in these last 2 thousand years and that is happening right now.
So, yes, there are a lot of problematic churches out there, but even in Revelation this was prophesied, there were 7 churches in the first chapter, and only one of the seven was doing a decent job.
But salvation does not come from a church, it comes from the Lord Jesus Christ. So, these crazy people do not harm my faith, I can see what they are doing was forewarned by Jesus himself, so it should be a surprise to no one that read the New Testament.
