I have a lady staying in my house who is Brazilian, she is here for a local festival. She is deeply religious but frankly comes across as a nut-case and I personally feel that the practice of religion in brazil , particularly the evangelical movement is distasteful and an affront to what real spirituality is about.
You see the extravagant lifestyles of these ministers and preachers and the overt, stylised nature of the sermons and the religious radio stations.... It is a money machine, nothing to do with bettering anybody except their own lifestyle.
The woman staying here continually listens to her radio station from Brazil and if she is outside she is singing the songs and clapping her hands to herself. People here are looking like she is a nut case and it is very uncomfortable to be around.
I would never deny someone their spirituality or religion but I really think it should be a personal thing and I hate that it has become commercialised and perverted for making money.
IOC is right to nip this in the Budd.
