It is different than other things, 500US+ is very expensive when you have to purchase games that cost 60US+ and, majority of the times, a lot of DLC. Consoles need a massive public in order to sell games and to make developers work on those consoles. Otherwise, developers would need to make more money and would put endless amount of DLC in every game.
