I'm not sure about VR for one reason, it's hard to truely know what VR is like unless you get to experience it for yourself and I'm not sure I'm willing to spend £350 to try something.

I think like moat things like this it will eventually spread out. One day you'll have a friend that has it and willing to let you take it for a weekend. and that would be all the trying out you need. I never liked the idea of consoles as kid. and definitely didn't have the money for it. I was content with my Amstrad. Until I went to a friends house and played double dragon on NES.
