They talk like if they were the only console gaming company. It also depends on Sony and Nittendo (and maybe other companies if they want to join the game). If Microsoft get rid of the Xbox Generations and see a very big gap in favor of the NX and the PS5, they would make another generations and, as the time pass, Microsoft's official statement are even harder to believe. This is bad for a company, they are devaluing their word, they should fire Greenberg and hire someone else.
Actually, a console's new interation have a good impact on release (because they only launch 1-2 times in a Decade). Because of the Xbox One's lower sales, Microsoft want to rely on the "spike" of sales that a new console, or Slim, brings every time, but it will not be so big if they keep doing this every time. I don't see the point of people purchasing a new hardware without exclusive games for it, I mean, if all the Multiplataform Games will run on the original Xbox, as Microsoft said, why do people that have a Xbox One would upgrade for the next one ?
I don't think that this would bring more games for the Xbox. Developers would not know how many users they have, because majority would be re-purchases, those kinds of yearly releases are usually re-purchases, for example, Is like saying that because Call of Duty Black Ops 3 will launch on Xbox One and Xbox 360 it will have a 110+ Million of Install base. Of course, at this point of the generation, is much better to have 10 or even 5+ Million of next genconsoles sold than a installbase of over 90 Millions of last gen console. Developers would see no great effect on sales and would jump the ship to another consoles. And what would Microsoft be able to do about that ? Begin a new generation. But if they do this upgrades every time they will not be able to make a Next Gen console successful (the launch would have much less effect) And they would aways be behind Sony and Nintendo on a infinite cycle.
Microsoft should not try to get rid of Generations because, if they do, they will not be able to get momentum again.
