I'm convinced that this is likely the case for Microsoft and probably Sony too depending on Neo's CPU.

The strength and timing of the Scorpio makes it very awkward for them to introduce an Xbox 2. At 6TF and a fall 2017 release, its unlikely that they will manage a big enough leap any 2020/2021 to justify a "new generation" which cuts out the Scorpio from the software line up.

Essentially at some point Xbox One software support will drop, but Scorpio's will continue. We'll move to a 2 tier generation cycle where at any one point there is an entry level machine ($249-299) running games at minimum spec and a premium box ($399-499).
