Many are stuck in the past and hope they'll play FF VI or VII again... Let those play those games again, as they are already released, and let the others not living in the past appreciate what's new.

What attracted many to the games to begin with was the gameplay, lose that gameplay style and it's not the same game anymore and in turn people won't want to play it. Sure you'll get new fans but you are just leaving those who wanted the game for it's gameplay with $60 in their pocket not spent. RPG is a broad category too, I mean Mass Effect is an RPG, I wouldn't put it along side FF in terms of gameplay though.
