obviously the Pokemon would be CGI. I think it could work if they go with an extremelyyyy stylized and kind of fantastical attitude. You can't just take the real world and implant Pokemon as a sport and make it work (cough look at how shit the live action Dragonball was).
Everything needs to be dramatically different from our real world for this film to work, cities, styles, even the average mannerisms. You watch Pokemon the cartoon for 5 minutes and obviously you'll notice people act a bit more bizarre and tend to yell catchphrases and things. the goofiness needs to remain
I think the worst thing they could do is take Pokemon TOO seriously. It has to be fun and zany
