you have no idea how much Nintendo makes on their software sales and accessories. as soon as you start providing titles strictly as third party newflash: you shares the revenue from software sales.
Its not like what you're implying, its actually quite possibly Nintendo would make less profit if they did it your way. obviously the Wii U failed but Nintendo would never make something like Wii profits (or remotely close) as a third party developer. also there's the topic of control; which you lose to some degree when providing software for someone else's hardware
THe benefits of it just do not add up at this point, especially when things like the 3DS and Pokemon GO show how much opportunity Nintendo has an how they still very much are in the minds of casuals; it would be an absolute waste not to try and find the right mix again with consoles.
Not to mention Nintendo isn't exactly a company dying for profit at the moment, they (unlike Sony) actually have a lot of money built up in the bank
