When the White House encouraged protests, it encouraged protests. Trump encouraged gun-nuts to do a deliberately ambiguous something.
That's a dog whistle for assassination; this phenomenon isn't new (he's done it before, albeit for assault not murder) and people tend to answer the call sooner or later. Either Trump knows what he's doing and incited violence or he doesn't know what he's doing and incited violence.
Being the Fascist sociopath that he is, I doubt he cares either way.
