Doubt they have much influence these days. Twitch makes their work pretty much null and void because it's very easy for people to judge by themselves just by watching a couple of streamers. It's a dying profession and few who a still clinging to it are fighting for every attention they can get.

I think that's completley false, now with internet critics have more presence than they ever had and they are the key for the success of certain games, specially very good indie games and they also collaborate in the fail of some very high dissapointments. They usually do not mean a lot in the market, but in extreme cases they do and they certainly are not dying, many people read critics reviews, more than ever probably.

Actually I agree with him/her in that their influence has and continues to decline, now it's marketing and streaming that pushes exposure, games like Destiny and Watchdogs that were panned on original release still go on to sell a tonne despite what critics say. The reason is because reviews are no longer the only means of feedback that many people have easy and quick access to, many people now make up their own mind, give it a few gens and this profession will be insignificant to how a game does as their views will only be mainly looked at by people on forums and such.
