As promised, World of Warcraft’s demon invasion of Azeroth pre-launch event has kicked off, bringing with it new outfits, weapons, cosmetic items and playable Demon Hunters for those who preordered. For the next three weeks the invasion will take place over six zones—including four-stage events—and will house close to one hundred spawning demon bosses.

 

THE GWENT CLOSED BETA HAS BEEN DELAYED INTO OCTOBER

I'm still not convinced that Gwent will ever fully replace drunken punch-ups as my favorite Witcher tavern game, but an awful lot of people seem to like it—enough to convince CD Projekt to turn it into a Hearthstone-y standalone game. Beta testing was originally scheduled to begin in September, but today the studio announced that it won't be ready to get things underway until the following month.

NO MAN’S SKY LIMITED EDITION BOX HAS ONLINE PLAY ICON HIDDEN UNDER STICKER

At the beginning of the week, Hello Games’ head honcho Sean Murray reminded players that No Man’s Sky is “not a multiplayer game.” A day later, he declared “the chances of two players ever crossing paths in a universe this large is pretty much zero,” via Twitter, before two players actually crossed paths. Sort-of. Now, to add to the confusion further still, it appears some limited edition versions of the space faring sandbox have a sticker on the back of their boxes which, once removed, reveal a PEGI 12 rating, a mild violence warning, and an online play icon.

 

EVOLVE STAGE 2 IS GETTING A CO-OP VS. AI PLAYLIST AND A DEADLIER ORBITAL DRILL

Evolve Stage 2 – ie, the new free-to-play version of Turtle Rock's asymmetrical team shooter – is in the middle of its first Shear Madness event. It spawned a new Medic character last week, but the newest reveal includes a new map variant, as well as a Co-op vs AI playlist.

 

RAINBOW SIX SIEGE PLAYER BASE HAS ALMOST DOUBLED SINCE LAUNCH

For mine, Rainbow Six Siege is the best shooter going at the moment, and while it launched to a general mood of ambivalence last November, Ubisoft has reported a significant increase in active players since then.

 

MASTER OF ORION WILL LEAVE EARLY ACCESS LATER THIS MONTH

Just over a year since it was first announced, Wargaming's Master of Orion reboot will launch out of Early Access on August 25. Since it hit Steam in February the studio has issued regular updates to the in-progress title, but the game will finally be feature complete by the end of this month.

 

RAYMAN ORIGINS IS THE NEXT FREE "UBI 30" GAME

Back in June, Ubisoft announced that it would give away a free game every month for the rest of the year as part of its celebration of 30 years in the business. First up was Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and then in July we got the stealth classic Splinter Cell. For August, Ubi is taking things in a slightly different direction.
