I think you don't understand the character he is representing honestly, and most of those "trashing" has been directed to developers and companies that were doing questionable things.
While I may not agree with him a lot of times, I can see that under that asshole mask of the character he is representing, he usually has very good arguments to support his pov and he is overall a smart and valuable critic for the industry.
