This is pretty much how greece looks every summer too, sometimes worse sometimes not quite as bad.
They are mostly out of control arsons there, since greece has special tree protection laws, that prevent people from clearing trees to build. Most of them jump to arson and the loss of woods and wildlife is much more devastating that way.
It's wierd knowing the fires are so and so many km from where you're staying, seeing the fire fighting helis fly overhead non stop and just going about your normal day.
Also, I can understand the derision for the #prayfor_____ wave that is going on. Once I saw someone putting #prayforportugal #prayfortheworld put toghether I had a pretty fed up response too. No. Do not pray.
If you're honestly that concerned about the planet and the various tragedies of humanity going on currently, get off of your ass and do something about it.
Change your lifestyle to one that is less resource hungry, go out and volunteer, stop being a prejudiced ass, educate yourself and help to bring education to others, there lots of things that you can actively do to make the world a better place. Sitting down and praying to some higher power (imaginary or not) to fix things for you isn't one of them.
Note that I'm not trying to bash anyone who is genuinely deeply religious and truly believes in the power of prayer. It's this knee-jerk reaction of asking people to pray instead of asking people to actually help, that is a point of contention with me.
