Hope our portuguese brothers are safe, this is a huge natural catastrophe, what a way to destroy a beautiful country like that, this sure was provoked, hope they find the people who did this and put them in jail until they are old. |
Isn't this a wildfire? If it was provoked by a person, I'd say jail isn't enough. Wouldn't be surprised if the people responsible were killed. Not like I'd care anyway. Humans and animals are in danger, but the assholes who could've done this destroyed a huge amount of nature that takes long to restore.

It's how the world works. People just use a hashtag or prayer and think they're magically Jesus for a day and will die as a hero. It's worse when it happens to your own people. I remember people finally talked about gaza during the 50 day war in 2014. Hashtags everywhere about Gaza, but once the trend dies, everyone leaves. Jump onto the next event, pray, jump again, pray, jump, pray, on and on until the day they're dead. It's disgusting how people just do hashtags. They can help in many ways. Just teaching about it is enough to be considered helping. Donating old clothes or food. Giving money. Helping out someone else who needs support. A goddamn hashtag is nothing more an octothorpe followed by some letters, numbers, and/or symbols. I've quit all social media- the hashtags were one huge reason for me doing so.

How is it cynicism if so many people are nothing more than zombies who only care about what's in the news? People like to act as though they're helping, when it reality it does nothing.
Sure, not everyone has negative desires, but it's useless nonetheless. How many people will actually talk about Portugal within a week? People move on. Portugal will be forgotten by most people by the time the next ISIS attack occurs or when the next zoo animal dies(RIP Harambe). Perhaps we should be spreading the word on how to donate or help in any way. Hashtags are nothing more than an attempt to fish for likes.
How many people actually help when reading about these events? Of all the countless events I've seen, most people just change their profile picture, add a "Je suis Mike" or whatever the hell the event is, and just talk about the event until it dies down.
Last time I recall, changing my profile picture to the flag of Portugal will do absolutely nothing.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.
