The creator said multiple times that you can see and interact with other players, but that it would be "very rare". Thats why i am thinking server issues, otherwise it would be outright dishonesty. Plus, having MP means more potential for fun times.

I agree. He doesn't seem the type to lie. I think it will be patched. It might be that it was simply something that was considered low priority in the development list since it's a very rare occurance.
