It's never embarrassing. That is an illusion. Why would it be? Plenty of families PREFER living together. I don't live with my folks, but they are only a mile away and I see them at least once a week.
Why is it considered weird to live with your parents? Leeching off them is one thing, but enjoying living with your close family is something completely different. It is common in a plethora of cultures.
As an American, it almost seems like it is considered some form of weakness or shame here. It's bizarre.
