It's a cultural thing. I had friends in Seoul, Korea that lived at home with the parents into their 20's. Alot of that also had to do with the way they do rent.
You had to pay rent a year in advance, where the landlord, put it in the bank, and collected interest on it. I read a survey that in the US it seems alot of the young ones are deciding to live at home longer, even after graduating college. They are deciding to come back home, and live with parents into their late 20's.
It is a contrast as when I grew up, and turning 18 meant freedom, sometimes 17 depending how much someone wanted to establish their independence even facing financial struggles.
