Why are handhelds often seen as inferior or not as important as home consoles?

Real question: Have you ever played on a home console before? I ask because even as a little kid, it was common sense once I tried them out(or just look at them) the first time even if I was bias towards handhelds. Same with movies made specifically for tv and movies made specifically for theaters.
