I believe in small government, low taxes and working hard for what you have. I don't believe in a national healthcare system and welfare should be limited to those who genuinely need it.

As another Australian... I am surprised you think this.

We have one of the best healthcare systems in the world with only moderate expenditure, high life expetency, low mortality rate, heck even a high chance of survival from cancer relative to most other developed nations.

It's certainly a far more efficient and versatile system than what the Americans have that's for sure.

I do agree about hard work and low taxes though, but when it comes to the welfare of our nations most vulnerable, everyone's health, everyone's education and the defense of this great land... Everyone... And I mean everyone. Need's to pitch in.

I am for some form of gun control (however I think it's too late for the USA now). I believe socialism is cancer but that capitalism should be lightly regulated. I think individuals should be responsible for their own actions and not blame things like 'oppression' for their behaviour.

Gun control has proven to work in Australia... BUT. The USA is different... They have far more pro-gun organizations and users and constitutional protections.
They also share multiple land borders with other nations which allows for the free-flow of people, drugs and weapons.

Australian's tend to care less as well.

There are too many who take advantage of welfare states around the world. If you are going to have a welfare system, you need to reject immigrants who cannot or will not work.

You can't win. :P

People complain that immigrants are stealing all of our jobs... Or leeching off the welfare system. It's either/or. Chances are not both.
Immigrant's in Australia would only be getting the dole/peanuts anyway if they are on benefits, difficult/impossible to live on... And certainly under the poverty line.

There are multiple sectors of the Australian economy that are very supply/demand/population growth driven, which has made millions of Australian's wealthy. Like... Oh... Housing? So immigration isn't always a bad thing.
